If You Don’t Mean

There’s nothing quite like the ache of being toyed with, the sting of hope held up just long enough to keep you around, only to be snatched away when you get too close. It’s an ache that digs deep, the kind that feels like it settles in your bones.

When someone shows up in your life just enough to make you believe there’s something real, and then disappears, leaving you stranded with only questions—there’s a unique hurt to that kind of heartbreak.

They look at you, smile at you, say things that make you think you’re the only one.

For a moment, it’s perfect, like every piece is finally clicking into place. But then, without warning, they’re gone. Silence.

They retreat, their interest fading into shadows, leaving you tangled in the memory of moments that now feel hollow.

You start doubting every second, every word, replaying the scenes in your head until you can’t tell what was real and what was just wishful thinking.

But walking away isn’t so easy when part of you still believes, or at least wants to believe, that this time, they’ll mean it. That this time, they’ll stay.

You hang on to the tiniest slivers of hope, every little sign, because in a way, they’ve trained you to. They’ve taught you to take breadcrumbs and call it love.

But the truth is harsh, if they don’t mean it, they’ll never mean it.

If they wanted to stay, they would.

If they valued your heart, they wouldn’t be dragging it around, letting it bleed with every back-and-forth, every unanswered text, every broken promise.

It hurts because you trusted that someone wouldn’t leave you questioning your own worth, wouldn’t leave you guessing their feelings.

Real love doesn’t leave you stranded with nothing but pieces of what-could-have-been.

Don’t let anyone run you round and round in circles, pretending to love you only when it’s convenient for them.

You deserve someone who will make it hurt less, not more.
